5 Steps of Braiding Aftercare

Updated: Jul 26, 2023

Hi everyone, thanks for coming to read our newest blog addition!

this doesn’t mean you should neglect the braids, or neglect your own hair underneath them.

We are giving you 5 steps to maintain your braids and have your hair looking and feeling fresher for longer!

Step one- Protecting your hair at night.

You should protect your hair with silk or satin when you go to bed which is important weather you have braids or not. The materials texture prevents frizzing and keeps your edges fresh as well as stopping your roots from drying out overnight. If this isn’t suitable for you and you find them uncomfortable, then place a satin pillowcase over your pillow for a similar type of protection.

Step two- Scalp care

Your scalp needs to be kept moist at least 2 to 3 times a week, using a leave-scalp food. Your hair will be prevented from drying out and breaking.

Water should be spritz on your hair every morning through a water based solution containing other natural oils such as Shea, coconut Jamaican, or almond oil. Water is the best thing for your hair, so this is an important step.

Step Three- Washing your braids

The build-up of products and sweat can be damaging to your hair and so it’s very important your braids are washed a minimum of once every two weeks. You can dry wash your hair to save the hassle of hopping in the shower to soak your braids in the water, and you can do this by dampening a washcloth with warm water and very watered-down shampoo mixture in a Washibottle (we offer a great children’s shampoo that works fantastically) , parting you hair and wiping your scalp down in sections.

Step Four- Follow Ups

Extend your style time by re-doing your edges. Often, after a few weeks, your roots have grown out and so it’s time to freshen up your look. Booking to reinstall the braids along your hairline can be done from 4 weeks in rather than re-braiding your entire head again.

Step Five- Take Down

Book your takedown! This service is to remove and detangle. You can choose from our menu of various treatments to help you towards your Hair Dreams!
